Tiffany Studios New York Monumental Favrile Glass Goblet

This monumental Tiffany Studios New York Gold Favrile glass goblet features a broad bowl adorned with trailing grapevines and leaves. The leaves were formed from hot-applied, three-part dots of green glass, drawn into delicate points with a hooked tool, while slender trails of green glass create the winding vines. The bowl rises above an elaborate stem composed of three stacked, ribbed melon-form knops and a stepped circular foot. Fashioned entirely from luminous gold Favrile glass, the vessel owes its brilliant iridescence to a fine metallic spray containing silver nitrate, applied to the surface of yellow uranium glass.
