In Tesselate, Tim explores the way colour can be created through layering and transparency. Using glass canes in only the three primary colours – red, yellow and blue – he creates the illusion of secondary colours, with green, orange and purple appearing through the overlapping layers. The effect relies on the eye mixing the colours rather than the glass itself containing them.
Tim first developed this cane-based technique over a decade ago, experimenting with how layering and transparency could create colour through light. For Gaffers and Protgs, he has revisited the technique, developing the idea further through new compositions and a more refined approach.
